Biography

Nurmagomed Shanavazov never won a Soviet title, but was a runner-up in 1987 and 1988 as a light-heavyweight. Shanavazov was European light-heavyweight champion in 1985, won silver at the 1988 Olympics, won bronze at the 1989 World Championships and also won the 1985 World Cup and 1986 Goodwill Games. Shanavazov finished his amateur boxing career in 1990 with a record of 104 wins out of 119 bouts and turned professional. But he had no success as a pro, losing all three of his bouts, the last two by knockout.
