The son of Italian immigrants, Fidel Tricánico took up boxing at the Academia de Boxeo Olimpia in Montevideo. As a flyweight, he was selected to represent Uruguay at the 1936 Berlin Olympics, where he received a bye in the first round and had a walkover against Pedro Rodríguez of Peru, who withdrew in protest of refereeing decisions against the Peruvian football. He therefore had his first bout in the quarterfinals, where he met with upcoming gold medalist Willi Kaiser of Germany and was eliminated. He also competed at two editions of the South American Games and, domestically, earned 27 national titles. He never turned professional, but later served as a technician with several boxing academies, and also coached the national team.
