Biography

At the age of 20 Bernhard Glass competed in his first international senior competition, placing fifth at the World Championships. In 1979 he moved up to bronze at the European Championships and in 1980, won the gold medal at Lake Placid. Glass had only qualified for the team in match racing against Michael Walter one day before the competition, as he had severely bruised his fingers in a fall during training. Although not the favorite in Lake Placid he defeated Hans Rinn and Dettlef Günther. After failing to qualify for the 1984 Winter Olympics, he retired and became a coach at Oberhof where he coached, among others, Silke Kraushaar.
