Biography

West German Georg Großmann finished 12th, partnering with Alexander Wernsdorfer in the two-man bob at the 1980 Lake Placid Winter Olympics. He was the first bob pilot who recruited a track & field athlete as his pusher, with decathlete Willi Holdorf in 1972. Großmann was best known for his very risky but fast runs that set several records. Nevertheless, he failed to reach an international podium. Großmann retired after the 1980 Winter Games and concentrated on his business career as a bank director. In his youth he was trained as a carpenter.
