Biography

East German luger Torsten Görlitzer came in fifth at the 1984 Sarajevo Winter Olympics in the men’s singles event. His career was overshadowed by several teammates, including Norbert Loch, Jörg Hoffmann, and Michael Walter, and thus he made only one national podium, earning a bronze medal in 1986.

Görlitzer later turned to coaching and was employed by the German bobsleigh and luge federation. He married his pupil Anke Wischnewski and both raised a daughter.
