Biography

Leif Holmgren played most of his career from 1971-86 with AIK, except for a short spell with Vallentuna BK in 1984-85. With AIK, Holmgren won Swedish titles in 1982 and 1984 and was selected to the 1979 Swedish Championship all-star team. Internationally, Holmgren was capped 98 times with the Swedish national team. He won an Olympic bronze in 1980, World Championship bronze in 1979 and European Championship bronzes in 1978, 1979 and 1983. He was awarded the Stora Grabbars Märke (Big Boys’ Badge) #106 in ice hockey. After finishing his playing career, Holmgren worked as an ice hockey coach. He was head coach of AIK from 1990-93 and later was head coach of Väsby IK and Ormsta HC.
