Biography

Marvin Johnson won the 1971 and 1972 AAU championships and the 1971 Golden Gloves crown. Then in 1972 he took the Olympic trials before losing in the semi-finals at Munich. After the Olympics, Johnson turned professional and did better as a pro than as an amateur. He has fought mostly as a Iight-heavyweight and was able to win the championship of both the WBC (1978-1979) and the WBA (1979-1980). He lost the titles to Eddie Mustafa Muhammad in 1980. He retired in 1986, with a career professional record of 43 wins (35 by KO), and 6 losses.
