Biography

Paolo Camossi was an Italian triple jumper who won the 1993 European Junior title and then placed fifth at the 1999 World Championships, but set an Italian record with 17.29, bettering the historic mark of Giuseppe Gentile, set at the 1968 Mexico City Olympics.

Camossi represented the military club Fiamme Azzurre. He married the non-Olympian sprinter Giada Gallina (Italian record holder of the 100 metres from 1997-99 with 11.23). Camossi won nine Italian triple jump titles – outdoors in 1996-99, 2001, 2003 and 2005; and indoors in 1996 and 2000. He placed eighth at the 2000 Sydney Olympics, and then achieved his career highlight, winning the 2001 World Indoor Championship in Lisboa, breaking his national indoor record with 17.32. He was on the national team from 1995-2006, earning 19 caps.

Camossi ended his career after four years with Athletics Brugnera Friulintagli between 2010-13. In July 2015, Paolo Camossi became coach of the former long jumper Lamont Marcell Jacobs who won the gold medal in the 100m and 4x100m relay at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

Camossi had two children who were both athletes, long jumper Riccardo, and sprinter Caterina, both were members of Sport Academy, the amateur sports association of Staranzano, chaired by Giada Gallina.
