Biography

Jay Lambert starred in sports at Lehi High School before he discovered boxing. He was 1947 heavyweight champ in the Intermountain Golden Gloves before making the 1948 Olympic team. After the Olympics he had a short professional career from 1948-50, winning 8 bouts, losing 3, with one draw. But he lost three of his last five fights and quit the sport to return to the University of Utah for medical school. He eventually became a general surgeon and served as the team physician for the Granite High School football team in the 1970s and 80s, and served frequently as a ringside physician for boxing tournaments. Lambert was inducted into the Utah Sports Hall of Fame in 1977.
