Biography

Cross-country skier Werner Haase from Oberhof in East Germany finished 38th in the 15 km event at the 1960 Squaw Valley Winter Games, finishing ninth in the 4x10 km relay. He won his only national title in the relay with his home club ASK Vorwärts Oberhof in 1959. Haase later coached youth cross-country skiers in Oberhof. In his later years Haase and his wife moved to Berlin to be closer to their daughter where he died in 2014 after a long illness.
