Biography

While attending Waseda University, Saburo Iwasaki won the 15 km individual and the 28 km cross country relay at the Japanese student championships in 1928. At the 1930 All Japan Ski Championships, he clinched two cross country titles, in the 50 km and with the relay team. At the 1932 Lake Placid Winter Olympics, he competed in the 18 km and the 50 km individual races. After retiring from active competition, Iwasaki worked to popularize skiing and improve the equipment. Eventually, he established the wax maker “Tempo Chemical”, and served as managing director of the Ski Association of Japan from 1956-60 and later as vice chairman.
