Biography

Abbe Jansson is little known but deserves some measure of fame. Prior to playing goalie at the 1920 Antwerpen Olympics, he practiced with a fencing mask, and became the first international hockey goaltender to wear a mask. Jansson also won a gold medal at the 1923 European Championships. Jansson played in Belgium with Brussels IHC from 1920-23. He was with Göta IK in Stockholm in 1925-27 and 1929-32. In 1927/28 he played again with Brussels IHC and also with Lidingo IF, and then stayed with Lidingo in the 1928/29 season. Jansson later became a hockey consultant in Göteborg.
