Biography

During his career, defender Nils Johansson played with two clubs. For the majority of his career, from 1956-70, he played with MoDo AIK, and then from 1970-75 he was with Färjestads BK. He never won a Swedish title, but he received the Goldpucken Award in 1964 as the best player at the Swedish Championship and was selected to the Swedish Championship all-star team the same year. He was also awarded the 1971 Rinkens Riddare award, given to the most sportsmanlike player at the Swedish Championship.

Internationally, Johansson was capped 168 times with the Swedish national team between 1960-70. He won an Olympic silver in 1964, was a World Champion in 1962 and won silvers at the 1963, 1967, 1969 and 1970 World Championships and bronze at the 1965 World Championships. He was awarded the Guldskridskon Award as the MVP of the Swedish team at the 1966 World Championships. Johansson was also a European Champion in 1962, won silvers at the 1963, 1964, 1967, 1969 and 1970 European Championships and bronzes at the 1965 and 1968 European Championships. He was awarded the Stora Grabbars Märke (Big Boys’ Badge) #65 in ice hockey. After finishing his sporting career, Johansson worked as an ice hockey coach with Färjestads BK, Hanhals IF and IF Mölndal Hockey.
