Biography

In the early 1900s John Tobin played college football for the Nebraska Cornhuskers and the Chicago Maroons where he was the star guard with the Maroons in the 1904 season. The following year Tobin became the head coach of the Tulane Green Wave football team in New Orleans, with him also becoming the university’s athletics director. During this time the St. Louis Olympics took place in 1904, which also included dozens of handicap non-medal track and field events. Tobin competed in the hammer throw as part of the Olympic collegiate championship where he finished second. He graduated from the University of Chicago in 1906 with a law degree and later worked as a judge in Utah.
