Biography

Odd Lirhus won two gold medals (15 km and relay) at the 1977 World Junior Biathlon Championships. One year later he won the world senior title at the 10 km distance. In 1979 he finished second in the sprint event at the World Championships, and his only national title came in 1980, also in the sprint event. He won three silver medals as a member of the Norwegian relay team at the 1978 and 1982 World Championships and at the 1984 Olympics. He also won a bronze medal in the relay at the 1983 World Championships.

Odd Lirhus was national coach for the Norwegian women’s biathlon team from 2002-06, and in 2004 coached Liv Grete Skjelbreid Poirée to four world titles as a member of his team. Lirhus later worked as a high school teacher and lived in Åsgårdstrand.
