Ernest Callot was #2 in the line of IOC Protocol, following only the Baron Pierre de Coubertin. He was President of the Union of French Gymnastics Societies from 1879-80, and later served as the first Treasurer of the IOC (1894-1908). He also headed the Commission for the Preparation on the 1911 Olympic Congress. In his academic career, he translated Greek tragedies into French verse. He also worked as an insurance inspector. Callot’s son was Henri Callot, who became a renowned artist and fenced at the 1896 Olympics. Another son, Pierre Félix Maurice Callot, became a prominent Naval officer.
