Biography

Enrique Dorn was Ecuadorian Minister in Paris when he befriended Pierre de Coubertin which led to his IOC Membership in October 1918. He was 73-years-old at the time, which made him the oldest member (as of 2014) ever co-opted onto the IOC. Dorn was made a member and President of the Comité de Propaganda Olímpica de la America Latina, a Paris-based group which had been formed by the IOC to promote Olympism in South and Central American countries. He helped arrange for a small Ecuadorian team to compete at the 1924 Paris Olympics and formed the NOC in 1925, but his interest in Olympic affairs then waned and he never attended any IOC Sessions after 1924. He was de-commissioned in July 1928 because of his failure to participate in Sessions.
