William Hybl

William Hybl studied at Colorado College and then received a law degree from the University of Colorado in 1967. He briefly entered politics, serving in the Colorado Legislature in 1972-73. He also worked as a Special Counsel to the US President during the transition from Jimmy Carter to Ronald Reagan, and among his tasks was to find solutions to problems arising from the 1980 Olympics boycott by the United States.

Hybl began serving as an advisor to the US Olympic Committee (USOC) in 1987. By then he had become chair and CEO of El Pomar Foundation, a large philanthropic organization based in Colorado Springs. In that role he also served as vice-chair of the Board of Directors of the Broadmoor Hotel and President of the US Air Force Academy Foundation.

Hybl became President of the USOC in 1991, serving for two years, but returned to that position in 1996-2000. He was on the International Olympic Committee (IOC) from 2000-02. During that time, he was named in 2001 as US representative to the 56th General Assembly of the United Nations. In March 2003, he was elected Chairman of the International Foundation for Election Systems (IFES), which provided election assistance and assisted with democratic development in more than 100 countries.

Hybl has been inducted into the Colorado Springs Sports Hall of Fame, Colorado College Sports Hall of Fame, City of Pueblo Hall of Fame, US Sports Academy, and Citizen of the West.
