Biography

Jerzy Loth studied in Warszawa, Kraków, Cambridge, Bruxelles, Antwerpen, and New York, later becoming a Professor of Economics in Warszawa from 1921-64. He also wrote extensively on topographical surveys and ethno-geographical studies, based on his extensive travels, mostly in the Americas.

Loth competed in many sports, including athletics, cycling, equestrian, football, and swimming. In sports administration he was Chairman of the Polish Athletics Union and the Warszawa Rowing Society. He was co-opted onto the IOC in January 1948 and resigned as a member in June 1961, after which he was named an Honorary Member.
