Australian rules footballer Ray Allsopp played in 54 matches for Richmond Football Club in the Victorian Football League (VFL) from 1955 to 1959 where he scored 69 goals. In the same period Allsopp also played in 21 reserve games and represented Victoria on three occasions during their tour of South and Western Australia in 1957. Aussie rules football was a demonstration sport at the 1956 Melbourne Olympics, contested by two amateur sides from Victoria. Allsopp represented the Victorian Football League side that lost 81–55 to the Victorian Amateur Football Association team. After his playing career he became the VFL’s first full-time administrator, going on to develop a junior football programme. Allsopp was awarded with the Medal of the Order of Australia in 2017 for his service to the sport.
