The pinnacle of Neil McNeill’s sporting career in Australian rules football came during the 1955-56 season, when he played 11 games with the top-flight South Melbourne club. He also represented the Victorian Football League/Victorian Football Association team in the demonstration event at the 1956 Melbourne Olympics, where it lost its match against a combined Victorian Amateur Football Association squad with a score of 81-55. The rest of his time as a player was spent with lower-level clubs and, after his retirement from active competition, he turned to coaching with the East Burwood Football Netball Club in the mid-1960s.
