Biography

Ro Gap-Taik was a South Korean tennis player who achieved a career-best singles ranking of #294 in the world in May 1989, and a doubles ranking of #451 in the world in June 1993. Ro played on South Korea’s Davis Cup team from 1985 to 1988 and later became the team’s captain after his retirement from playing.

Ro competed in the singles at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics when tennis was a demonstration sport where he lost in the first round to Michael Westphal. Along with Kim Bong-Su, Song Dong-Uk, and Yu Jin-Seon, he won gold in the team event at the 1986 Asian Games. In 1988 Ro had his one and only win on the ATP Challenger circuit with a straight sets victory against New Zealand’s Peter Carter in Guangzhou, China.
