Aleksandr Kovalyov had the following podium finishes at the Flatwater World Championships: 1st 1998 C2 1000 m (with Aleksandr Kostoglod), 1st 1999 C2 1000 m (with Aleksandr Kostoglod), 1st 2005 C4 200 m (with Aleksandr Kostoglod, Maksim Opalev, and the non-Olympian Roman Kruglyakov), 2nd 2003 C2 1000 m (with Aleksandr Kostoglod), 3rd 1999 C2 500 m (with Aleksandr Kostoglod), 3rd 2001 C4 200 m (with Aleksandr Kostoglod, Maksim Opalev, and the non-Olympian Vladislav Polzunov).
