Biography

As a youth in Finland, Eric Luoma was active in athletics, wrestling, and cross-country skiing, but it was the latter that he chose to continue upon immigrating to Canada in 1950. Living in Calgary, he helped found the Foothills Nordic Ski Club, joined the Canadian national team, won several Canadian titles, and was selected to represent Canada at the 1964 Winter Olympics, where he placed 15th and last in the 4x10 km relay alongside Martti Rautio, Don MacLeod, and Franz Portmann. Individually, Luoma was 61st out of 71 starters in the 15 km and also took part in the 50 km. He retired from active competition shortly after the Games. By career, he was involved in the construction industry and later ran his own company.
