Biography

Karl Borschke was one of the artists whose works were submitted for the 1948 Olympic Arts Competitions, although he was already dead. He first studied for three years at a private art school and from 1904-11 at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts, and then went to Italy for five months. In 1931 he became a member of the Vienna Künstlerhaus.

Borschke created portraits and history paintings as well as symbolist representations. Nudes and sport motifs were also frequent works. His painting Boxing Match was obviously submitted in both the 1936 and 1948 art competitions, at least the same image is found in both art catalogs. This could also apply to some of the other works with the same or similar names, probably drawings. His 7 (sic!) Scenes of a Boxing Match are mentioned in the literature.
