Biography

Artur Brusenbauch studied in Wien (Vienna) at the State Industrial School – initially architecture - and the Academy of Fine Arts, interrupted by military service and captivity. First, theater painter Johann Kautsky (1827-96) taught him to work as a stage decorator. He later became known for fresco painting and graphics. Some of his frescoes are still visible in Wien today. In 1920 Brusenbauch became a member of the Vienna Secession, then in 1939 of the Vienna Künstlerhaus.

Brusenbauch was awarded with the latter’s Golden Laurel in 1956. He is considered a post-impressionist with a wide range of motifs and techniques. According to the art catalog, Brusenbauch’s work is a drawing. From the 1920s he created a series of resting nudes as oil paintings and drawings. Maybe his entry The Rest was one of them.
