Biography

Jens Christian Kofoed was a Danish architect who was primarily aligned with historicism and particularly the school of Italian Medieval Architecture. He mostly built churches and houses for the YMCA. Typical were simple rotundas, red brick and tiled roofs. Kofoed was educated as a carpenter and studied at the København School of Architecture from 1888-96. Around 1900 he traveled to various countries of Western and Southern Europe. For almost three decades, he then worked for the København Magistrate 1912-41 and for one of Denmarks oldest credit unions. The “Plan of a Stadium” was never implemented.
