Biography

Italian sculptor Alessandro Manzo attended the courses of the Art Institute and the Academy of Fine Arts in Palermo, where he later received a professorship and taught sculpture. He came from a family prominent in the marble industry, which gave him early contacts with sculptors. Manzo produced mostly large sculptures and reliefs for public buildings and churches.

Manzo entered two medals in 1948. The Il Nuoto medal from 1947 was awarded the first prize in the medals category at the National Exhibition for Sports-Inspired Art in the National Gallery of Modern Art in Rome, and was then submitted together with Il Canottaggio in London.
