Biography

Hendrika Cornelia de Balbian Verster-Bolderheij died only half a month after her 100th birthday. She was married to the historian and journalist Jan de Balbian Verster. The couple lived in Amsterdam and, since 1965, in Blaricum. Before she became a student of Ludwig Willem Reymert Wenckebach and Isaac Israëls, Rie attended the Dagtekenschool Amsterdam. She painted mainly still lifes and portraits. She was a member of the Guild of St. Luke and of Arti et Amicitiae in Amsterdam. The portrayed Amazon (Miss Mary Lungen on Matador) was a famous show jumper in The Netherlands.
