Three-time Olympian artist Thies Luijt (1928, 1936, 1948) was a Dutch painter who received an Honorable Mention in London 1948 for his work Polo Game in the paintings category, shown in the catalog of art competitions. He was an illustrator, water colorist, draftsman, painter, lithographer, interior designer, and political cartoonist. Luijt was educated at the Academy of Art in Den Haag and at the Académie Julian in Paris. He lived in Wassenaar, but also stayed at times in Bruxelles and spent a six-year study period in South Africa. His main materials were water colors and oil with which he produced still lifes, landscapes, horse pictures, figure scenes, allegories and village scenes.
