Biography

Cornelis Mension painted landscapes, cityscapes and still lifes, but he was best known for his paintings of birds and small animals, such as mice and monkeys, but also of great predators. As a painter he was influenced by Franz Helfferich (1871-1941) in Den Haag and then by his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts. His style was one of smooth impressionism. Mension was also an excellent engraver and lithographer. Most of the time, he lived in Delft, but exhibited throughout Europe, and also in America.
