Biography

Swiss sculptor, medalist and painter André Pettineroli was the brother of Édouard Pettineroli (1896-1961), also an artist. André made an apprenticeship as a woodcarver and attended the Ecole des Arts et Metiers, and later the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Lausanne. In 1930 André was awarded a Swiss Federal Art Scholarship. In the following years, he travelled to Roma, Paris and Tunisia, while he was already working as a painter. As a sculptor he created mostly portraits and nudes, but also religious motifs and tombs. He was also versatile as a painter both in his techniques and in the motifs. He had his most important exhibitions in the second half of the 1930s in various Swiss cities. Pettineroli produced paintings and prints as well as sculptures in wood, stone, marble and bronze.
