Biography

Starting in 1925 and extending through the 1940s, Jessie Herron was among the leading women sculptors of California. She was especially active in Southern California, and her Art Deco style sculptures can be found in many public buildings and monuments. Among others she created some Art Deco figures in the La Fayette Park at Los Angeles together with her colleague Henry Lion. She studied at Stanford University and at the Academie Colarossi in Paris, amongst others. In the 1950s, she taught at the Otis Art Institute in Los Angeles.
