Biography

Frederick Wight played a significant role in the development of art in Los Angeles, where he later taught. He started his studies at the University of Virginia and in Paris at Académie Julian. Besides painting, he also pursued writing. Wight painted mostly landscapes and portraits. In 1935 he published his first novel South. During World War II he worked as a draftsman, and participated in the Allied Normandy invasion, and then questioned potential spies in London.

After returning to the US Wight continued to write essays on various topics. However, he also painted still lifes, expressive landscapes, planetary movements, and sunrises and sunsets. As a lecturer and professor, he taught modern art history.
