Anton Nilsson was one of Sweden’s best middle-distance runners in the first decade of the 20th century. Competing for Fredrikshofs IF from Stockholm’s Östermalm neighbourhood, he was most successful over the 1,500 m, leading the Swedish ranking in 1907 and 1908 and winning gold at the Swedish championships in 1908. He added a bronze in 1906 and a silver in 1910 and set a national record over three miles. At the 1912 Olympic Games in Stockholm, Nilsson was entered for the 1,500 m and the 5,000 m but did not start.
After working as a clerk for many years, he ran a tobacconist’s shop from the late 1920s. In 1918, he married Maria Kristina Nyman, a pharmacy technician. The had one daughter.
