Biography

Juhani Jaakkola was a sprinter who was part of the first quartet to run under 40 seconds in the 4 x 100 metres relay in Finland. Jaakkola, Raimo Vilén, Erik Gustafsson, and Markku Juhola ran the race in 39.6 seconds in Helsinki in July 1972. Along with Antti Rajamäki and Markku Perttula, the quartet were named as part of Finland’s team for the same race at the 1972 München Olympics, which were held two months later. However, despite Finland reaching the semi-finals in München, Jaakkola and Perttula did not start.
