Biography

Conal Groom rowed lightweight double sculls at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. He won a bronze medal at the 1998 World Championships in the lightweight double and placed sixth in that event in 1999.

Groom rowed in college at Georgetown University. He became a rowing coach, first as director and elite coach at the Pocock Rowing Center in Seattle, and then as the head coach at Lake Union Crew. He later became head coach at the Seattle Rowing Center, a club devoted to youth rowing on Lake Washington’s Ship Canal. In April 2022 Groom was suspended by US Rowing and placed on temporary restrictions as he was under investigation by the US Center for Safe Sport for allegations of sexual misconduct.
