Biography

Kelly Salchow rowed quadruple sculls for the United States at the 2000 and 2004 Olympic Games, finishing fifth at both Games. Her international experience began when she raced at the 1991 World Junior Championships in both the four and eight. She competed at the 1998-1999, 2002-03, and 2005 World Championships, winning three gold medals, in the quadruple sculls in 1998 and 2005, and the double sculls in 2003, adding a silver in the 2002 double sculls.

Salchow went to college at the University of Cincinnati but really became serious about rowing when she moved to Philadelphia after graduating and joined the Pennsylvania Athletic Club.

Salchow made the move to Philly to work in graphic design. In between her two Olympics she earned a master’s degree at the Rhode Island School of Design. She eventually became a professor of graphic design in the Department of Art, Art History, and Design at Michigan State University.
