Biography

Michael Schmidt was a sport shooter who competed in skeet at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. Schmidt was a two-time gold medalist at the World Shooting Championships, winning gold in the 1985 and 1991 team skeet event. He competed at the 1991 Pan American Games and was the 1997 US Champion in skeet.

Schmidt learned to shoot from his parents, Mike and Dorothy Schmidt, who ran the Minneapolis Gun Club from 1970-88. His father, Mike, Sr., learned to shoot competitively while in the Marines. Michael Schmidt, Jr. was an educator who served as dean of students and activities director for the Staples / Motley School District in Minnesota.
