Biography

Robin Goad was a weightlifter who finished in the flyweight division at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. Goad (as Robin Byrd) competed at the 1987 World Championships, the first time it was held for women, and was the only woman from that event to compete at the 2000 Olympic Games.

At the World Championships Goad won seven medals, topped by gold in 1994. She won four silver medals (1987-88, 1991, 1993) and two bronze medals (1992, 1998). She also won a gold medal at the 1999 Pan American Games. Goad was USA Champion in 1988-89, 1991-96, 1999, and 2001. In December 1991 she set a world record with a snatch of 81 kg in the 52 kg class. She also held American records in snatch, clean & jerk, and the total from 1993-97. Goad was a physical education teacher.
