Biography

An accomplished ice hockey, bandy and football player, Hans Mild is one of only 12 people to have represented Sweden internationally in both ice hockey and football and one of the rare few who have won a Swedish title in both ice hockey and football. Mild started his career with IK Göta in 1954, but moved to Djurgårdens IF in 1955, where he spent most of his career, finishing his career with Hammarby IF from 1964-69. With Djurgårdens, Mild won the Swedish ice hockey title from 1958-63 and football titles in 1959 and 1964. Mild won the Guldbollen Award as the best football player at the Swedish Championship in 1964 and as an ice hockey player was selected to the 1963 Swedish championships all-star team.

As a left winger, Mild was capped 63 times with the Swedish national ice hockey team between 1955-64 and as a midfielder was capped 31 times, scoring one goal, with the Swedish national football team between 1960-65. As a bandy player, Mild was selected to the Swedish national team several times, but never played internationally. As an ice hockey player, Mild won Olympic silver in 1964 and World Championships silver in 1963. He also won silvers at the 1963 and 1964 European Championships and bronzes at the 1959 and 1961 European Championships.

After finishing his sporting career, Mild worked as an ice hockey coach. He was the head coach of Djurgårdens IF from 1975-78 and also coached with Hammarby IF, IF Corban, Södertälje SK, Nyköpings BIS, IK Sirius and IK City. Mild was awarded the Stora Grabbars Märke (Big Boys’ Badge) #63 in ice hockey and the Stora Grabbars Märke #31 in football.
