Biography

At the first Olympic ice dancing competition in 1976, Jim Millns and his partner, Colleen O’Connor, finished third and upheld their position of the two previous years as the top U.S. dance pair. They began skating together in 1971 and trained for a while in England under former World Champion Bernard Ford. After one year with him they finished seventh in the U.S. national championships and then moved back to Colorado Springs where they changed coaches and quickly improved. They were U.S. champions from 1974-76 and at the 1975 Worlds, were leading after the set pattern, although they finished second. Milins was a graduate of the University of Illinois in park administration and was an avid outdoorsman.
