Biography

Yuri Mitev was a biathlete and coach who was regarded as one of the best in his sport in Bulgaria. Mitev competed at the 1980 Lake Placid Olympics and the 1984 Sarajevo Olympics. Mitev’s best performance was 31st place in the 10 kilometres sprint in Sarajevo. At the 1981–82 Biathlon World Cup Mitev finished 24th overall with a best performance of eighth place in the sprint race in Lahti, Finland. Mitev also competed at the Biathlon World Championships in 1982 and 1986.

Mitev became the head coach of the Bulgarian men’s team, coaching multiple biathletes including Hristo Vodenicharov, Spas Zlatev and Krasimir Videnov. Mitev later coached the women’s team including Emiliya Yordanova and Desislava Stoyanova.
