Biography

From 1945 to 1953 Kauko Mäkinen played ice hockey for the Finnish team Tampereen Ilves. During this time Mäkinen won three consecutive league titles with the club from 1950 to 1952. He also had a brief international career with nine appearances for Finland, which saw him compete at the 1951 World Championships and the 1952 Oslo Olympics. At the Games he played in five matches and scored a goal in their 4–2 loss to Poland. Mäkinen retired in 1953 and was only 41-years-old when he died in August 1968.
