Biography

Josef Niedermaier was a Bavarian biathlete who finished 46th in the 20 km event at the 1972 Sapporo Winter Games and 26th at the 1976 Innsbruck Games. He won West German titles at 20 km in 1970-72, and in 1975 won the sprint event. At the 1975 World Championships he was fifth both in the sprint and the 20 km event. After Niedermeier retired from competitive biathlon, he became national coach in Switzerland, and he later turned to dog sled racing and won six European Championships.
