Biography

Finnish sportsman Seppo Nikkilä was a great ice hockey player and represented Koovee in Tampere for all his career. Between 1955 and 1969 Nikkilä played in 203 league games for the club and scored 195 points. He was the league’s top scorer in 1964 and did the double of winning the league and the cup in 1968. He also played in more than 60 matches for the national team, winning silver at the 1962 European Ice Hockey Championships. Two years later he was named in Finland’s squad for the 1964 Innsbruck Olympics where he played in seven matches and scored two goals. Nikkilä also played volleyball at the highest level, as well football in the provincial league. He was inducted into the Finnish Hockey Hall of Fame in 1986.
