Biography

Bert-Ola Nordlander played with two clubs during his career – from 1956-63 with Wifsta/Östrands IF and from 1963-73 with AIK. He never won a Swedish title, his best finish at the Swedish Championship being a runner-up with AIK in 1968. Despite that fact, Nordlander was awarded the Goldpucken Award in 1967 as the best player at the Swedish Championship and he was selected to the Swedish Championship all-star team in 1961-63, 1968, 1969 and 1971.

Nordlander was capped 195 times with the Swedish national team between 1960 and 1972. He competed at four Olympic Games (1960-72) and eight World Championships tournaments (1961-63, 1965-67, 1969 and 1971). He won an Olympic silver in 1964, was a World Champion in 1962 and won silvers at the 1963, 1967 and 1969 World Championships and bronzes at the 1965 and 1971 World Championships. He was also a European Champion in 1962, won silver at the 1963, 1964, 1967 and 1969 European Championships and bronzes at the 1960, 1961, 1965, 1968 and 1971 European Championships. After finishing his playing career, Nordlander worked as an ice hockey coach with Nacka SK, Hammarby IF and Djurgårdens IF. He was awarded the Stora Grabbars Märke (Big Boys’ Badge) #58 in ice hockey.
