Biography

Kārlis Paegle was a top all-around athlete who played ice hockey for Latvia at the 1936 Garmisch-Partenkirchen Winter Olympics. He was a defenseman who was capped 27 times for Latvia in hockey and earned one cap in football. Paegle placed fourth at the 1930 World Table Tennis Championships and was fifth in 1931. He was also a tennis player who ranked in the top three in Latvia.

In ice hockey Paegle competed at the 1935 and 1939 World Championships. He was a six-time Latvian Champion, playing for Rīga RFK, Rīga ASK, Rīga City, and Dinamo Rīga. After World War II Paegle settled in Sweden, where he lived until his death in 1997.
