Biography

Dietmar Peters played for EC Empor Rostock until 1970. After the restructuring of East German ice hockey teams he moved to Dynamo Berlin together with his brother Roland. He then helped Berlin to win national titles from 1976-80 and 1982-86. From 1999-2001 he returned and played with Halle Saaleteufel.

In 1966 Peters won a bronze medal at the Europeans, which the team received only in 1999. He was inducted into the German Hockey Hall of Fame in 1999. In total he earned 315 international caps to became the East German record holder. In his youth Peters was also a versatile soccer player and played two internationals with the East German youth team.

In 1968 the only Olympic match between the two Germanys took place at Grenoble. The match was won by West Germany 4-2 in the final round in 17th February, resulting in a seventh place finish for West Germany and eighth for East Germany. As a result, in 1970 the East German government decided not to give further state support to ice hockey.
