Biography

Walter Pichler had his best years in the mid-80s, winning an Olympic bronze medal in the relay in 1984 and a bronze at the 1985 World Championships in Ruhpolding. In 1986 he was German Champion in the 10 km sprint event. After his competitive career he became a very successful coach, starting as the US national coach, followed by a stretch as youth coach at the Bayerischer Landesverband, becoming coach of the British biathlon team in 2009. His cousin Wolfgang Pichler was also a successful biathlon coach.
